Linguistic and Cultural Diversity Analysis: The train travels through various landscapes to reach the North Pole. Santa, however, delivers it to his house on Christmas, and only the boy and his younger sister can hear the ringing, because the sound signifies belief in the magic of Christmas. Unfortunately, he loses the bell due to the hole in his bathrobe pocket. When they finally arrive, Santa Claus announces that one child will receive the first gift of Christmas, and the main character is chosen! Instead of asking for a huge present, he simply asks for a sleigh bell from the reindeers’ sleigh. The Polar Express tells the story of a young boy who, on Christmas Eve, gets the chance to take a train to the North Pole. Although most of the colors are dark and dull, they help create the feeling of a snowy train ride to the North Pole. His illustrations are beautifully done in landscape form and take up a majority of the two pages when the book is held open.
